I've been on Instagram for few years now, at the beginning I was just posting random daily photos, I later started posting photos that I've been taking using my DSLR. A friend of mine told me few weeks ago that I've got plenty of awesome photos; but my Instagram profile is messy and has too much 'noise' in it.
What my friend meant is that I was posting a good photo or 2 and then post a photo that I have took using a phone, or maybe posted a quote, and by doing that I've added 'noise' to my profile and I should tidy it up. The other thing that my friend brought to my attention is that Instagram has released an update that enables us to post photos in different aspect ratios instead of the 1:1/square photos. This is GREAT because I wont have to use an app to make photo wide photos fit into a square and add bars around it. Here's an example of the photos I used to post:
So for the past 3 weeks I've decided to tidy up my profile by posting 3 landscape/travel photos and then 3 portraits. Here's how my profile look like after the change:
I want you to leave with these tips from this post:
- NEVER use ugly boarders.
- Stay consistent and don't post too much noise. If you have to post such thing, make it a temporary post ( I post some event announcements from time to time but delete them after the event).
- Keep shooting! :)
